Young Republican Statewide Goals – Increasing Chapters and Membership

Two major goals set this year by our Young Republican Officer Team, are to expand Young Republican chapters across Nebraska, and to increase the membership of our current chapters located in both Lincoln and Omaha.

Currently, provisions in our NFYR Constitution allow any individual to become a statewide member if they are between the ages of 18 and 40. Given the distances however, it is sometimes burdensome for each individual to become active participants unless there are local or regional chapters established to bring YR members together. In order to encourage participation, the YR officer team has identified the following communities where it would beneficial to start YR chapters: the Grand Island / Kearney / Hastings area, North Platte, the Scottsbluff / Gering area, Beatrice, and Norfolk. This list is by no means exhaustive and could be expanded to also include your community if there is interest in creating a local YR chapter.

In order to enhance membership among our current chapters, additional efforts have been made to increase overall numbers and attendance. The Omaha YR’s have extended free memberships to local College Republicans and other auxiliary groups in their area so as to make the transition from CR to YR less difficult. To promote their most recent event, the Lancaster County YR’s purchased ads on a local cable channel and also had their guest speaker on a local radio show to announce their meeting. These and other ideas will be implemented to increase participation.
